Pearson

Pearson's acquisition of Wall Street English has led to an overhaul in the curriculum at WSE. My role has included oversight of the core materials development working across content, design and instructional design teams - vetting digital content, training authors for production, and creating and organizing digital assets, and scheduling project deliverables.

Additionally, I created a prototype merging the current design of the digital product with the new content for student usability testing. This prototype has since been used as the template for an international teams to prototype new features in future iterations of product development.

In this project, Wall Street English and Pearson developed a hybrid competency-based English Language Program. This program was built around the production of a 40 hour video series. The storyline and dialogue were developed to follow the sequence of learning outlined by the competency requirements of the Global Scale of English.

As a project manager, I managed writing teams to create digital activities and ensure they satisfied the necessary learning objectives. I organized project deliverables to ensure user testing deadlines were achieved. This project was also intended to organize the learning content in a new way – and was the first product at Pearson to utilize their new custom learning management platform.

All activities and content written were tagged by the main learning objective they addressed, so these could be recalled and identified later for future iterations and updates. This organization also allows students to see their own project, and identify areas where they may need extra practice.

Below are a few examples of the digital activities that accompanied the video content.

This activity allows students to contextualize words in sentences related to the video they’ve seen, including opportunities for verb conjugation.

Students receive immediate feedback after submitting as to whether their answers were correct. After answering, the competency associated with this activity also incorporates the student’s score to track their progress.

This is an activity from a novice level that allows students to practice vocabulary.

Here, students listened to audio to determine the correct image response.

Students also participate in activities that require them to record their own voice and interpret video excerpts from the content.

The content organization allows students and instructors to individualize the program of study, and view which competencies are being met, and which might need more practice.
